Love No Go Die, Wavy Level. Is Olamide Still Delivering To Your Expectation?

Olamide

I thought the day would never come when our dear Olamide Baddo Sneh would be relegated from his position of revere in the industry, to the lower ranks. But how he still manages to command that revere is what remains a bewilder to some of us.

Guys, I can beat my chest and make bold to saying that if we were to draw up a list for top (abi hottest) male music sensations now, Olamide will fall short of even making the first-five count on that list. Although his formula for making, or isit delivering music now, hasn’t changed. The singles still come in like they were tidied up in a hush-rush and he hasn’t missed out on any year since 2011, dropping albums.

Could it be that we have finally woken up to the realization of the diminishing effect in his music since after Shakiti Bobo, which actually happened to be the last time he had a real hit on his hands? Do not get me wrong, Who You Epp, Owo Blow and Pepper Dem Gang all managed to cut across like music hits following certain strategic events that we experienced in the industry at their respective times. While Who You Epp rode on the wave of the competitive covers that later turned it into a viral sensation, Pepper Dem Gang thrived following the lack of good stuff to saturate the airwaves because of the dormant mood the beginning of the year took.

Now that Runtown, Davido, P-Square, Tekno, Simi, 9ice and even Wizzy baby have returned back on the charts in their domination conquest, it has become quite apparent that Olamide is slacking. A statistical result from an online survey showed that much of the hits on his name, cannot even be tied to musical endeavours. Rather, they were mostly pulled from news stories.

ALSO READ: Where Is Olamide’s YBNL Princess?

After The Glory album dropped, Olamide proceeded with the release of music video projects off the album. In his usual ‘done and dusted’ style, he moved on quickly after 3 videos to his first single of the 2017 year – Love No Go Die, which was received amidst plenty razzmatazz but soon died out with hardly any bang or buzz. The same eerie feel has crept into his life of features. Before now, Olamide would easily make the hottest contender for a category like the most featured artiste. But as it is almost mid-2017, Baddo can count the features he has done this year on all five fingers of one hand alone.

With the latest wavy single out now, one must wonder if it is a song laden enough with the potential to tear up the charts. It also otherwise stems a pondering thought that further brews questions like…

  • What exactly is happening – or has happened – with Olamide?
  • Why isn’t he piping hot and popping like before?
  • Could it be that his present ordeal is equally affecting the YBNL militia considering their music of late also suffer expressions from this dreary characteristic?
  • Will Olamide ever make it back to his glory days of Bobo, Melo Melo, Awon Goons Mi, Durosoke, Voice of the Street, First of All and their unforgettable, widely celebrated likes?

It leaves plenty to ponder about. But majorly, what’s a Nigerian music industry without the heavy influence of Olamide and his music street hits? Is it possible to think it, or even visualize it? Please share your thoughts.

Abiodun Koya – Lift Up Nigeria (prod. Wole Oni)

Abiodun Koya - Lift Up Nigeria (prod. Wole Oni)

Abiodun Koya – Lift Up Nigeria (prod. Wole Oni)

Opera Singer, Abiodun Koya Marks Democracy Day With Lift Up Nigeria. Opera music diva, Abiodun Koya is sounding a clarion call of renewed hope and patriotism with the release of an inspirational song entitled Lift Up Nigeria. The release of the captivating song by the talented US returnee comes as Nigeria is set to mark another May 29 which is set aside as Democracy Day. Lift Up Nigeria is a chorus that is very easy to learn. It was composed and arranged by the talented singer while it was produced by award-winning music producer, Wole Oni.

Abiodun has had a successful career as an Opera Singer in the United states for about 20 years. The Soprano Vocalist studied Business Management at the University of Columbia, Washington and has a Masters Degree in Music from Catholic University.

With infectious eagerness, Abiodun Koya describes the new song as an inspired song different from what she has worked on.

“Lift Up Nigeria is a song that everybody can sing along to easily. My dream is to start a fire of love and patriotism about Nigeria amongst fellow citizens of our beloved country. Speaking negatively about Nigeria will be an ungrateful thing. We shouldn’t join others to put our country down. We should love our country dearly irrespective.

The song has earned rave reviews from world leaders after it was performed first at the grand opening of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo Library in March and, later at Aso Rock during a special thanksgiving service for Vice President, Yemi Osinbanjo.

Tiwa Savage Talks Working With Jay Z, Wizkid And Taking Over The World

Tiwa Savage Talks Working With Jay Z, Wizkid And Taking Over The World

Mavin/Roc Nation artiste, Tiwa Savage, opened up on several issues concerning music, her sound, record labels and more in an all new interview with Akua Ofei of Nation Of Billions.

Read excerpts from her interview below:

On her foray into the music industry:

Oh my goodness X Factor was bittersweet,” she says with a small laugh when I ask about her time on the show. “It was a heartbreaking experience at that time. Obviously, because I didn’t get through – I think I got eliminated just before the final 10, and I was heartbroken. But then, I say sweet because I feel like if I’d gotten through I probably wouldn’t be doing the type of music I’m doing now. I probably would be doing strictly Pop music or R’n’B music. So I think God knew what He was doing.”

It was a situation where I got a glimpse of what was to come and I was able to go back and really prepare myself. I always say this: ‘Opportunity favours the prepared’ – I don’t know if I was prepared mentally then. And also, I had to really go back. Go to Berklee College of Music, learn music. Moved to America, learned how to write songsWorked with a lot of amazing artists that I’ve always looked up to – all my life. And that’s where I discovered the buzz that was happening in Africa because when I was in America, everyone would say ‘Tiwa, where are you from?’ and I’d tell them oh, I’m from Nigeria and they’d say ‘wow!’ They were so fascinated by the music, the culture and I was like why am I trying to do something else when these people are interested in what’s going on in Africa? And that’s when I moved back [to Nigeria from America] so it all adds up. I’m glad I actually didn’t get through on X Factor but at the same time, if you’d asked me I probably would have ripped your head off at the time. You know, sometimes when you go into situations and this door is shutting, and this door is shutting and that door – it forces you to look inward. Because you can’t get what you thought you needed at that time, it forces you to reevaluate yourself.

On her relationship with Wizkid:

“I’ve known Wizkid for many years, as soon as I moved to Nigeria. I would like to say we kind of started around the same time really – when he was signed to EME, and came out with ‘Holla At Your Boy’ – so we have a really really good relationship. And when I had the song [Bad] for the album ‘Red’, it was actually the producer’s idea to reach out to Wizkid because [Wizkid] was the only person [the producer] could hear on the song as a feature. And I sent the record to him, and when he laid the vocals down it was just one of those really perfect synergies – we did the video, and the song really, really, got a lot of buzz so I’m grateful to Wiz for jumping on that record.”

On adhering to afrobeats foundation:

With anything, there’s always an evolution. With sound, with fashion – anything. I’m just really happy that elements of the traditional Afrobeat is still there – who I attribute to Fela Kuti, who I think is the king, the godfather of that sound, that movement. But like I said, it’s an evolution and it also stems from influences. A lot of us grew up outside Nigeria – in the UK, the US, Europe wherever. Even outside Nigeria but within Africa – so there’s a lot of influences of Reggae, Soul, R’n’B, Pop – even the sounds from here in the UK. But in everything, I’m still very very happy that elements of it are there whether it’s pidgin or whether it’s Yoruba or Nigerian language – elements of the beat is still there. And I’d like – I hope – it still remains in there as the evolution goes on.”

On international labels building their market in Africa, the ALL OVER crooner said:

From my personal experience, especially signing with Roc Nation – they are more interested in maintaining what it is that’s gotten me this far and what has gotten us this far. So, they’re not really trying to change the sound. I would say maybe branding and artist development – in terms of, our music industry is completely different in Africa than it is in the US or UK – so it’s just learning a different infrastructure – the product is still the same. It’s just working on the branding or packaging a little bit. I have to maintain that otherwise, what’s the point really? You’ll lose the essence of the movement and this movement is bigger than one artist. It’s a revolution. So we have to be mindful that we’re representing a continent and we’re representing new artists that will come up after us and they have to maintain that sound as well.

Phyno Reacts To Pia Mia & Jeremih Allegedly ‘Stealing’ His Song “I’m A Fan”

Nigerian indigenous rapper, Phyno whose track “I’m A Fan” from his Playmaker album was allegedly ‘stolen’ by an American singer, Pia Mia, has finally reacted to the issue.

The song theft news broke out when Pia Mia tweeted on the 26th of May that her single, I’m A Fan, is finally out for download.  Listening to this song, it is very clear that everything is not right as the beat, hook lyrics and song title are exactly the same as Phyno‘s “I’m A Fan“.

With the internet going crazy at such confident “copy and paste” attitude, everyone became a speculator, assuming and concluding from their own point with no concrete knowledge of the real deal.

Phyno has finally reacted to the current controversy. In his words… “U will hear from me and my team at the right time…” Who that was directed to wasn’t stated in the tweet, but he is either talking to Pia Mia, Jeremih or producer Remo who supposedly worked on the beat with him for the allegedly stolen song.

Listen to the original version of “I’m A Fan” by Phyno ft. DeCarlo and Mr Eazi.

Terry Tha Rapman – Worry Worry

“With today being Democracy Day, Terry Tha Rapman drops a new song that addresses the problems wrong with Nigeria.

In what he considers an open letter, Terry Tha Rapman eloquently highlights the struggle of the common man in a Nigerian society that has been damaged by the greedy and corrupt for decades.

On the hook is upcoming singer Singnature and the track was produced by the always impressive Doc Def.

This track perfectly touches on the dividends of democracy that are still yet to be seen or felt. “
