Photo: Corps member presents laptop to Best Graduating Student at his Place of Primary Assignment

A corp member serving in Rivers state, Okoroha Kingsley Chino, has shared a beautiful story of how he rewarded the Best Graduating Student at his Place of Primary Assignment.

Read below:

Meet Okoro Izuchukwu Gospel, the eventual winner of the laptop I had previously donated to be given to the best graduating ss3 student of GSSS Elekahia. He hails from Imo state Nigeria and aspires to become a lawyer.
He was moved to tears as he never expected such prize for his diligence and hardwork. In a society where talentless people are celebrated, profanity is rewarded, nudity lauded,
in a society where the winner of a math olympiad gets a mathset and some notebooks while a teenager skilled in the act of "Azontry" and "shokitude" gets a car as a reward, this gesture of mine was aimed at recognizing and giving honour to whom it is actually due... The hardworking ones with a zeal for academic excellence.

‘Why I raped 7-month-old baby’- Man arrested in Katsina for raping step-daughter

The 57-year-old man, Magaji Dansale, who yesterday confessed to raping his seven-month-old stepdaughter, has described hi action as “regrettable and an act of the devil”.

Paraded alongside other suspected criminals at the Katsina Police Command headquarters yesterday, he said his action was uncalled for, and pleaded for leniency.

The native of Dangaske Village of Jikamshi in Danmusa Local Government Area, as reported by Daily Trust said:
“I had dreamt that if I had sex with the girl I would stop my unwanted frequent travels, so I went ahead and did what I did.”
He said before he married the girl’s mother, he was fond of travelling frequently and never stayed in
one place but when his first wife left him with six children, he began to stay at home.
“No sooner had I remarried than my past habit of travelling returned that was when I had the dream one night. I swear, there was no motive behind my action, it was just ordained by God that such would happen to me and it happened,” he said.
When asked why he chose the step daughter instead of his biological daughter, Dansale said,
“She is also my child, I just don’t know how it happened. I  regret my action and want to plead for leniency.”
The girl’s mother, 25-year-old Zinnai Muntari, said when she woke up for the morning prayers and saw blood on the private part of the baby, her husband asked her to bring the child and after observing her, said it was pile and hurried out to bring some herbs to use on her.
“As a mother, I felt this was unusual and reached out for help at the General Hospital Malumfashi where the doctor confirmed it was a forceful entry that tore the vagina up to the anus. They later referred us to the Umar Turai Children and Maternity Hospital in Katsina,” she said.
The girl’s biological father, Ibrahim Nuhu, said there was no going back until justice is served.
“All I want now is to save the life of my daughter and for justice to take its course to serve as deterrent to others,” he said.
The state Commissioner of Police, Usman Abdullahi, described the matter as “disheartening and very pathetic”.
“We suspect that the woman was drugged, for how come with probably all the screaming of the baby the mother couldn’t wake up? I assure you, we will charge him to court to get the case to its logical conclusion,” he said as he appealed to residents to collectively help check such increasing societal ills.
“It is worrisome for Katsina, the rise in rape cases is alarming. Last year alone, over 110 cases of rape were handled,” he said.

'I order phones online, send my boys to rob delivery man' – Gang boss arrested by RRS

The operatives of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested four suspects who specialise in tricking sellers of expensive mobile phones pretending to be online buyers and thereafter rob the sellers at the point of delivery.

The suspects, Wilfred Ehis, 30; Bright Eloho, 24, Emeka Egbemedu, 22 and Olanrewaju Kamilu, 33, were arrested on Wednesday evening in Olamulti Hotel, New Site, Iba, Ojo, Lagos.

The RRS operatives, working on reports from victims of the same robbery perpetrated by the gang, had tracked Ehis and his gang to a location in Iba.

On March 7, 2017, the gang shot one Sgt. Garba Kadiri while trying to evade arrest in Pretty Street,
Iyana School, LASU-Iyana Road.

According to Ehis, a Chemical Engineering graduate of University of Benin, Benin, Edo State,
“What I do is shop online for expensive phones and goods. I request the sellers to make home delivery. I would send the delivery address to the seller, when the seller gets to the address, he would call me and I would control my boys to go to the delivery address and rob the seller.”
He stressed,
“That is my role. I shop online, send the delivery address to the seller and make sure he is at the delivery address, then control the boys to collect the ordered items from him. I don’t follow them to the robbery scene. It is only Nurudeen, alias “Onyeabo” that I know carry out the execution. I know he has a locally made short-gun and I am aware he had recruited other boys to join him in the robbery….
“All I do is stay in hotels. I don’t even go out at all. I am always indoor. They do the robbery, sell the phones and give me my own share of the deal. Nurudeen is always in hiding. He doesn’t come outside since SARS, Lagos picked up his closest friend last year. He is short in size and he sneaks into Lagos mostly at night through the creeks from Ogun State,” he disclosed.
Sources stated that Ehis has several gangs who do his runs for him. The source added that he was into internet fraud and ATM point robbery. The source added that, Ehis before his arrest stood at different ATM points in Igando, Ojo, Alaba and Apapa to monitor ATM users, who withdrew money.

From there he controlled his gangs who operate on mostly motorcycles (okada) to trail the withdrawers and collect the money from them.

After his arrest, about five victims from Computer Village in Ikeja have besieged RRS headquarters to give information about the operation of the gang.

Two of such victims who came forward on Thursday were Oluwaseyi Sunday and Alabede Habib. Both of them in separate statement stated that Wilfred Ehis, pretending as Barrister Deji, had sometime in February 2017 requested that expensive phones be delivered to him on two different addresses on LASU-Iyana Iba Expressway.

The victims were later robbed by three of Ehis’s gang members operating on motor cycle at the delivery points. The sellers claimed they lost N800,000:00 and N450,000:00 in the robbery.

Items recovered from Ehis when he was arrested were a Tecno CQ phone, an LG 3 Phone; One I mobile phone; 2 Wrist watches, a Canon camera Eo87D; 1 neck lace, 1 Sony laptop, a rap of Indian Hemp and an ash colour Altima salon car with the registration No. APP 493 EH.

Another Queen’s College pupil dies following epidemic

An epidemic that broke out at the Queen’s College, Lagos has claimed the life of its third victim.

Punch reports that the victim, identified as Praise Sodipo, died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

Praise was an orphan, a Senior Secondary School one pupil, who has been on life support at the Intensive Care Unit before she died late Thursday night.

The President of the school’s Old Girls’ Association, Dr. Frances Ajose, and the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, confirmed the development.

You recall many pupils at Queen's College had been admitted in the school’s sickbay after eating spaghetti and drinking water suspected to have been polluted, in the school.

Two pupils –Vivian Osuiniyi and Bithia Itulua –who were in Junior Secondary School two and three
respectively, reportedly died as a result of the epidemic.

The Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, had led a team to the school and ordered an investigation into the incident, just as the then Principal of the school, Dr. Lami Amodu, denied the epidemic, blaming the report on haters of the school.

Amodu was later transferred from the school.

Idris, after few weeks, released a statement saying health records from the school’s sickbay indicated that the date of illness was January 16, 2017, and a total of 1,222 pupils presented themselves at the school’s clinic on account of abdominal pain, fever, vomiting and diarrhoea.

The statement noted that 16 cases of illness were admitted in various hospitals. While nine had been discharged, two had been confirmed dead, one was still on admission at the Intensive Care Unit of LASUTH, and three were at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba.

The PUNCH had also reported that more pupils of the school had taken ill and were being admitted in different hospitals in the state.

On Friday, one of those that had been in a critical condition gave up.

A parent, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said,
“She was one of the first set of students that fell ill. She was an orphan. She went into a coma and was on life support, before she eventually passed on. That has made the death toll to be three now.”
Ajose said she was aware of the development but refused to comment further.

Idris said,
“Yes, another pupil died. She was the one in critical condition. I received a call around 1am on Friday about the death. I don’t have much detail yet.”
A parent, whose child was discharged from the hospital on Thursday, asked the Federal Government to probe the deaths and called for the prosecution of the former principal of the school.
“This should not be swept under the carpet. There have been three deaths because of the carelessness of one person. We have lost these promising ones and their families are now in sorrow. This case must be probed and all those involved brought to book,” he said.

Wife of murdered Jumia delivery man cries out - 'Our children are still expecting their dad’s return'

Blessing, wife of late Chukwuma Eleje, a delivery agent with Jumia, an online marketing store, who was murdered and thrown into a septic tank, has said that their four children were still expecting the return of their father.

Mrs. Eleje, recalled how her husband promised the children that he was coming back home after the day’s work with a lot of goodies for them, lamenting that her 38-year-old husband was no more.

It will be recalled that Chukwuma was killed by three assailants at Shell Location, Mgbuoba, Off Ada George Road, Port Harcourt, where he had gone to deliver two phones.

The suspected killers, Sodienye Mbatumukeke, Excel Naabe and Joy Eluwa, had since been arrested by operatives of the Rivers State Police Command.

But the widow, who spoke on a Port Harcourt-based radio station, Nigeria Info, explained that the
deceased was just an ordinary man with four children.

Wondering how she would cope, Mrs. Eleje added that her husband had promised to pay their rent before he was murdered.
“He left for work telling us that he would be back. He promised the children by telling them he would buy a lot of goodies for them. Up till now, they are believing that their daddy is coming back.
“How will I cope with school fees? Our rent has expired and the landlord gave us one week and now the one week has expired.
“Now, I am hearing my husband is dead; how am I going to cope? He was just an ordinary man with a wife and four children,” she cried.
On how, she got the news of her husband’s death, the widow explained that people were gathering at her compound and were telling her “sorry”, adding that she did not understand what they meant by that until it became clear that she had lost her spouse
“I did not know that the news had spread everywhere. My family and I were not aware until when I saw people gathering in my house telling me sorry. I was surprised, I didn’t understand why they were telling me sorry,” she said.

WAEC confirms that Senator Andy Uba forged his result -Sahara Reporters

SaharaReporters has obtained a document issued by WAEC declaring that Senator Emmanuel Nnamdi Uba, better known as Andy Uba, forged both a secondary school certificate and “Confirmation of Result” which he presented to British authorities.

In a letter dated February 12, 2014 and addressed to the attention of George Smith of Public Agencies, located at 57 Peel Road, Wembley Middlesex, HA9 7LY in the U.K, WAEC stated, “Letter reference no. L/CR/CONF/05465089 dated 21st November, 2013 is fake.”

Uba’s real results, as certified by WAEC in its letter to Mr. Smith, showed that he
scored “credit” in only one subject, Chemistry and flunked others.

By contrast, Mr. Uba’s falsified results claimed that he earned the following grades: English Literature 4, English Language 7, Christian Religious Knowledge 7, Economics 4, Statistics 6, Mathematics 6, Physics 4, and Chemistry 6.

In addition, Uba also claimed that he obtained bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees from Concordia University, Canada, California State University, and Buxton University in the UK.

SR investigations disclosed that Mr. Uba indeed registered as an undergraduate student in both Concordia University and California State University, but that he dropped out of both institutions.

Further investigation also showed that Buxton University is not an accredited institution of learning, but a “certificate mill” that sells degrees to anybody willing to pay a small fee.

Even though Mr. Uba’s official website claimed that the senator attended Buxton University in the UK, the fake institution does not have any physical address in Britain. It once operated out of Portugal, using that country as a location from which to send “certificates” to customers around the world.
